I recently found myself wandering through a salvage shop called Class and Trash in the Scott’s Addition district of Richmond, VA. Upcycling has become one of me and the hubby’s favorite hobbies. As we strolled around the store my eyes locked on “The Big B.”
I swear there was a beam of light from heaven shining right down onto it! I had an instant connection and gut feeling that it was meant to be mine. I am still giddy (and laughing at myself for how excited I get about other peoples “junk”)!
One of the shop workers told me the letter had come from a Neiman Marcus store. But they weren’t 100% sure. If anyone out there recognizes this, I would love to have the history one it.
Getting “The Big B” home in the rain was a little challenging. I can only imagine what people thought they saw us speeding down interstate lie we just escaped an episode of Sesame Street – “The letter of the day kids is B”!
It’s now hanging in my office, and the source of inspiration for the B4 We Create Month 6 Logo Experiment.
The font I have used here is called Didot. I extended it about 20% to get the proportion closer to that of “The Big B.” The letter B is accompanied by a superscript #4 and offset with a black circle. The hit of teal gives the illusion of 3 dimensions on the B, and the black circle will look nice on Facebook this month as the Social Media giant has recently decided to change the profile image from a square to a circle.
